Weekend Update

On Sat (29th), my son played in his weekly basketball game. The team he got placed on really isn't that good and they normally get creamed. This week though, they actually led the whole game (my son got the first points of the game!). They led until the last minute of the game when the other team finally caught up and went up by one point. My son had the ball with 30 secs left, missed his shot and the other team got the rebound and made another layup to go ahead for good. I think what hurt was that halfway through the game, the best player on my son's team got hit in the nose with the ball and had to sit out the rest of the game due to it bleeding. Things kind of went downhill after that... So close!!

Saturday evening, my wife and I watched the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Extended Edition (we had watch the first hour of it a few weeks ago). She didn't really like the 'real' violent parts, but overall she really liked it. I was kind of suprised as she really doesn't get into those kinds of movies. We didn't get started watching it until 9:30pm, so we didn't get done until 12:30am! It was pretty hard to get up for church Sunday morning! HA!

Sunday at church was a little different than normal as we had a Ministry Fair. It was almost like what you see at those Home Shows, where every vendor has a booth. Each ministry of the church had a booth to promote and sign up new helpers for their ministry. We also had Krispie Kream doughnuts too! Ummm! For our TV ministry booth, we setup one of the cameras we use for taping the service, along with a switcher, etc. to let people see how easy it is to run a camera. We got a new people to sign up which is always nice.

Today (Monday, 31st), we had a terrible thing happen. One of my co-workers was found unconcious in the parking lot this morning with no pulse. The paramedics revived his heart, but he never came to. He's still in the hospital of course and we're all waiting on pins and needles to see what exactly happened... Most likely a heart attack... Please say a prayer for Rodney.

Oh, my local college b-ball team lost another one, at home, to Kansas State 64-53 Saturday night. They play at Kansas tonight... Just go ahead and put another talley in the "Lost" column. Ugh.

One positive note today... It's Payday! :-)

Blessings!

Remembering

Today is the 60th anniversary (Jan. 27, 1945) of the liberation from the Nazi death camps at Auschwitz. I pray that the events there are never repeated ever again.

One of my web clients is totally redoing their whole site, so that's been real fun. Plus, they are adding sub-websites now, so I'm slowly trying to get all of them up and going. I was approached at church by a local business owner about setting up a website for his business. I'm not sure about taking on another website to create and maintain, but this one *would* be a paying gig. Which wouldn't be bad.

The local college b-ball team lost a close one last night to Colorado, 64-62, as one of their freshman hit a three pointer with 21 secs left in the game. Ugh... I just need them to get 12 wins for me to win my soda from my supervisor... Come on guys! You can get two more wins! Please!!!

Blessings!

Happy Birthday (to me)!!

Today is my birthday and it's one of those "milestone" ones. Today is my 40th trip around the Sun. :-) It's been a wild ride...

I walked into work today fully expecting my cubicle to be totally trashed, but amazingly, it wasn't. One of my co-workers did finally decorate it up with some R.I.P. and "Over the Hill" signs and also brought in a cake. My supervisor and co-workers also took me out to a local Mexican restaurant for lunch. My wife and daughter were able to join us too. It was a really nice time and the food was excellent.

The only downside to today will be that I have a church board meeting tonight and so I won't be able to spend much time with my family for this special day. Also at the board meeting we have dinner which is usually Chinese food... Oh boy, I'm really going to be stuffed... I hope my stomache can handle all this ethnic food! :-)

The weather is totally beautiful today. Sunny and 58 degrees... Just a wonderful day to have on a birthday. For the past three years, I had taken off work and went to the movie theatre to see the latest "Lord of the Rings" movie. Since there are no more coming out, I'm here at work today. I guess I could have stayed home and watched the extended version of "The Return of the King", which I haven't finished yet, but I'll save that for later...

I am truly blessed with a wonderful wife, son and daughter, great parents and sister, and in-laws that I really see as true brothers and sisters. God has really blessed my life and I am truly grateful for all He has done.

Since it's my birthday, I am King for the Day, so if you're at work reading this, I grant you permission to leave for the day, and make a toast in my honor.

Blessings!

Party!

Well, we got all (most of the important ones anyway) the little fix up jobs done. Got the house all cleaned just in time for the big birthday/open house party Saturday night. We all had a really good time.

I've kind of came down with a slight sinus infection now and is trying to get me down. It also didn't help that I didn't get much sleep last night. Our daughter was having trouble sleeping due to some reason and so we put her in bed with us. She finally went to sleep, but I never really seemed to drift off. I'm about dead today.

Heard the old "Tonight Show" host, Johnny Carson passed away on Sunday morning. He was 79. I wasn't a regular watcher of the "Tonight Show", but you gotta hand it to a guy for taping over 4000 shows. It's always a little sad when a staple of society passes.

So, the Superbowl is now set... The Patriots and the Eagles... uh... who cares? :-)

Our local college b-ball team pulled out a pretty good win against Nebraska last Saturday 80-70 after having two lopped-sided horrible losses. Good to see a win again! :-)

It was bitterly cold here over the weekend with very high winds on Saturday. I had to get out to take my son to his basketball game at 8am... Did I mention it was bitterly cold? Brrr... At least we didn't get any snow like the Northeast part of the country did...

Tomorrow is the big day.... I actually turn 40... Wow.. I'm getting old (apologies to those older than me... HA!).

Blessings!

Friday stuff

Um... I tried updating my blog yesterday, but never could get in as it seemed Blogger was having problems... or it was just our network... who knows...

So, here's yesterday's updates... today... in a nut shell:
Prez. Bush was inaugrated, my favorite cousin had a birthday (#44), I worked on a new website, my daughter got sick after dinner last night (lost dinner), painted the dining room (was up until midnight).

I'm taking off at noon today to get a few more "honey do" jobs done. We've got my big birthday bash tomorrow night (which doubles as an open house), so we're trying to get everything ready.

Can't report on any sports as I'm too disappointed in my sports teams... Losing to Texas Tech, at home, was too much to bear... :-)

Blessings!

Handyman Dave...

Man, whataweekend! I got so many 'honey do' jobs done it isn't even funny! Sometimes I even amaze myself! :-)

We cleaned the fronts of the kitchen cabinets and replaced the hardware on them (the handles). The old ones were tarnishing and the gold plating rubbing off, etc., so we replaced them and it looks so much better (plus the cabinets are shiny now too!). The wood doors in the kitchen area had a lot of scratches on them from the previous owner's dog, so I put some Old English Scratch Remover stuff on them and they look brand new too (and shiny to boot). I also installed a shelf in my sons room. I also did a couple loads of laundry to help out my wife since she had a Dr.'s appointment. I also painted over some spots where we removed a large mirror. That's the one bad incident. Even though we got the same paint for that wall, the spots I covered didn't quite match the rest of the wall and it's pretty obvious. Oh great... So now I'm going to have to paint the whole dining room. That's one job I wasn't expecting to do. I still have to hang that big mirror back up in the entry way too...

We're doing all of this to kind of spruce up the house in time for my big birthday bash this weekend...

It'll all get done... I hope....

Sports note... Last Sat. night (15th) our local college b-ball team lost on the road to Kansas State. They didn't just loose... but they got spanked... Ouch! The east-side of the state pro football team got whooped also on Saturday against the Atlanta Falcons in the playoff game... Ouch! That's enough for sports today... it's too much pain.... :-)

Blessings!

Hey, it's Friday!

Not too much to report on today... Pretty slow day at work, but I got a lot done on some websites I'm working on... :-)

Gonna be a cold weekend, but a long one with the MLKjr holiday, so that's alright with me... Just get out the hot chocolate and build a fire in the fireplace... ummmm... warmth....

And it's Friday! Whoo Hoo... time to go home....

Blessings!

Ice and Snow

We got quite a bit of rain yesterday and last night, but this morning it changed over to sleet and finally snow. Didn't get a lot, but it did get slick in a few spots. Suppose to be very cold (lows in single digits and highs only around 20) for the next couple of days... Brrr.... Okay, so much for the weather report....

Sometimes I just hate doing website stuff... Oh, the actual creation and maintenance isn't so bad, but it's when you have to change web hosts is when it gets frustrating. I'm moving the church's website to save money and to get more space. Problem is, they wanted to also change their email addresses to something new to cut down on spam. Sure, it'll be nice for awhile, but it'll just catch up to them evenutally... Another group I'm doing a site for is totally reorganizing and totally redoing everything (new domain names, new site, etc.)... They're having trouble getting some of the subdomains working right and are working with the hosting company, so I guess that part is out of my hands. Change is good.... right?

I'm suppose to shoot some video for a "paying" gig this Saturday. It's for a steel construction company that is wanting a short video (about 5 mins) to play in their booth at an upcoming home show at the end of the month. Hopefully the weather will be nice (still only going to be in the 20's... brrr) as the video will be shot outside. Hopefully my camera won't freeze up!

Saw on CNN's website that NASA will be landing a probe on Saturn's moon Titan tomorrow morning. That's pretty cool... Can't wait to see what they find out... "Hey, there's green cheese on the surface!"

Oh... Last Tues. night the local college b-ball team lost to OSU... It was a pretty close game for most of it and they only fell apart in the last two minutes and only lost by 10 points.... They gave it a great effort though for their first official "away" game.

Blessings!

Where Do I Begin?

Ugh! So many things are happening, I don't know where to begin or how to describe it all.

I took off at noon last Friday to watch my daughter as my wife had an afternoon Dr.'s appointment. Later that afternoon, our area got a suprise snowfall of about 3 inches. Saturday, my wife and son went out of town for his monthly Junior Bible Quiz meet. It's an all day affair, so I got to spend more bonding time with my daughter. She's fun to play with and is full of energy and spunk. Sunday after church, my son started feeling sick and had a slight temp. Monday morning my wife took him to to the Dr. and he's got strep throat. I got an extra 'holiday' off on Monday as it was the inauguration day for our new state governor. My wife then went shopping with a friend Monday afternoon. I had a TV ministry meeting at the church Monday night. Today, I'm back at work again trying to get caught up on everything. Since I also do some website design/maintenance for a couple of sites, they are both moving things around to new webhosts and it's causing all kinds of problems. Whew... take a deep breath... Tomorrow will be a better day.

Sports update: Last Saturday, our local college b-ball team played Iowa State in the conference opener and barely pulled out a win after a dismal 2nd half. Tonight they play Oklahoma State at OSU. And our east-of-the-state pro football team sqeaked out another win to make it to the elite eight....

Blessings!

Let it Snow Let it Snow Let it Snow....

Today is the worst of the weather we're suppose to get this week. My part of the state is right in the middle of the storm system. North of us is getting lots of snow and ice. South of us is getting lots of rain. Later tonight, our rain is suppose to change to ice/sleet/snow. Fun fun fun. It's suppose to be only in the mid-20's for a high tomorrow, but it'll be warming back up into the 50's by Sunday. Gee... I sound like a weatherman.... ACK!

They've cancelled church services tonight too due to the weather. I don't blame them... I know I don't want to be out driving on ice covered roads/bridges....

Today is one of my nephew's 6th birthday! Happy Birthday Kevin!! My sister said he woke up this morning wondering where all his presents where... Too funny!

Slow day at work today... Not too much going on.

My 'daily' sports note... The local college b-ball team pulled out a 64-51 win against American University (who?) in a sloppy game. Conference play begins this Saturday against Iowa State. Now the fun begins!

Blessings!

Wet Paint

Back from a long weekend and lots to report, but I won't bore you with the details... well, okay, maybe a few....

Last Friday (New Year's Eve), we got the kitchen all prepped for painting then went out and actually bought some paint. That afternoon, we got a baby sitter and then went out for some more furnature shopping. Friday evening, my parents brought down my new TV and we got it all hooked up right before the New York New Year's (11 PM our time). Man... what a nice picture... in all of it's 32 inches of glory... And DVD's look even better! Can't wait to try out my Star Wars trilogy set on it! :-)

Saturday we got down to business and got the kitchen actually painted. We used an Antique White color which was just a shade or two lighter than what was on there before, so it only took one coat to cover it. It also looks very nice now and my wife is very happy! Happy wife.... Happy life! :-)

Last night (Monday), our church had a roller skate night at the local rink. That was a lot of fun. I even tried the Limbo and actually made it to the last round before wiping out.... It was also the first time for our two year old to put on skates. We had the wheels tightened so she could still walk with them on, so she liked them pretty good. It took forever to get around the rink with her, but she had a fun time too.

Back on sports, I mentioned our local college b-ball team in my last entry about playing Gonzaga... Well well well! They pulled off a win against them 63-61... I told you it would be a nail-biter! Tonight the team plays American (who?). Hopefully things will go well with that too... Also, our east side of the state pro-football team made it to the wild-card game by winning in overtime, but our west side of the state team failed to go out on a winning note... Always next year! :-)

We're getting some yucky weather this week after having a beautiful spring-like weekend. We're suppose to get rain/sleet/snow... we'll see...

Blessings!
